- Use your dog's weight as a quick guide: up to ~25 lbs → Small; up to ~50 lbs → Large. If your dog is heavier than ~50 lbs or drinks frequently, bring extra water.
- Quick comfort check: the trough is shallow and meant for lapping. If your dog has an unusually wide muzzle, test by having them drink from a shallow bowl at home — if comfortable, the bottle trough will likely work fine.
