Quick selection rules:
- Measure the width of your opening at the narrowest point. Choose a model whose adjustable width range fully covers that measurement.
- Measure the height from floor to where you want the top of the gate to sit. If you need to stop jumping dogs, choose 36 in height; for doorways and downstairs use, 30 in is common; the 28 in modular set is for large spans, not for jump-prone dogs.
- If your opening is very close to the top of a model’s range, pick the next larger range to ensure a secure fit.
How to measure your dog (quick sanity check):
- Measure your dog’s shoulder height (floor to highest point of shoulder).
- If shoulder height is near or above the gate height, choose a taller model (e.g., 36 in).
- For nervous jumpers or athletic breeds, prefer the taller option even if shoulder height is lower than the gate.
