- Measure the spot where the feeder will sit—it should have at least 8 in × 8 in of floor space and about 11 in of vertical clearance.
- Decide which capacity you need: 3.2 qt ≈ 12.8 cups of dry food; 4.8 qt ≈ 19.2 cups. Divide that number by your pet’s daily portion (in cups) to estimate how many days the feeder will hold.
- If you want two animals to eat separately, pick the 2‑bowl model (both 1‑ and 2‑bowl models share the same external dimensions).
